Sri Birendra Mallick

Sri Birendra Mallick, the author of the Bengali book series “Sri Gurur Sanghe” published by the Manohar Mahila Mission, was the fifth generation of the princely clan of Raja Rajendra Mallick.

Raja Rajendra Mallick, is credited with building the famous “Marble Palace”, a renowned tourist spot in Kolkata, which is also a heritage building. Within the premises of the Marble Palace is the temple of Lord Jagannath, the governing deity and King of this palace. Raja Rajendra Mallick’s and his descendants are the 'sebaet' or beloved servants of Lord Jagannath.

Sri Birendra Mallick was born to Sri Dhijendra Mallick and Srimati Raj Rani Mallick on 12th January 1920 on the occasion of the birth of Swami Vivekanand. He did his schooling from Metropolitan school and further education from Scottish Church College.

At the age of 15-16 yrs, he was attracted to spiritualism and he started searching for a Satguru. He met a lot of sadhus and read many religious books and scriptures. As he read more, he wanted to read more. At that time he fell sick and went to Hazaribagh for a change. There he heard from their Kulpurohit Sri Nilkanta Ghosal about Sri Sri Khepababa. He met Sri Sri Khepa Monohar Thakur in the house of Sri Dhiren Sen, an eminent businessman of Hazaribagh. But his inquisitive mind never accepted him without any trial. He started telling himself that if Thakur was a real guru he would be able to read his mind. Sri Sri Khepa Monohar Thakur responded to that and finally Sri Birendra Mallick accepted him as the guru he was searching for.

He took dikhsa along with his wife in Nawadip in the year 1946. After that he traveled with Thakur to various places like Nawada, Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Bhagalpur. After dikhsa, his life took a different course.

Whatever he heard from Guru, he wrote in the form of books titled “Sri Sri Thakurer Tantra Sadhana”, “Raj-jog Sadhana’ and “Life of Sri Budababa”. Whatever he experience around Sri Guru or heard or felt, he always kept a note and that was published as “Sri Guru Sange” book series in Bengali. Sri Mallick also edited for some years a magazine named “Prahari”.

During the flagend of his life, he had no connection with anybody and was deeply ingrained in sadhana. In those days he was a regular Nityasangi of Sri Sri Thakur.

On 14th January 2001, he departed for his heavenly abode.
